Marie van der Zyl Unanimously Voted as JLGB’s Deputy

We are thrilled to announce that former member, adult leader and now parent helper and supporter of JLGB, Marie van der Zyl was ratified unanimously as our new Deputy for The Board of Deputies of British Jews at JLGB’s recent trustees meeting.

Marie was a member of JLGB in her youth and attended one of our weekly groups for many years, crediting this time as having a huge influence on the person she is today. We are delighted that her daughter is now a JLGB member and Marie has seen a huge improvement in her confidence since she has been attending her local JLGB group and camps.

Marie joined the Board of Deputies in 2012. She served on the Finance and Operations division from 2012 until 2015, and was then elected a Vice President. She has served as Chairman of the Defence and Interfaith division since 2015.

Currently Marie works as an employment lawyer and is a self-employed partner at a law firm in London. She acts for communal and religious institutions, other faiths and charities. Her work for religious communities has also included a response to government consultation in relation to potential legislation.

Marie lives in Mill Hill, London and is married with two daughters aged 11 and 13 (one attending a Jewish faith school). In her youth Marie attended Wanstead and Woodford United Synagogue and became a cheder teacher. She is a member of Mill Hill United Synagogue and serves on the board of management of the West London Synagogue.

Following the recent news that Jonathan Arkush won’t seek re-election as Board of Deputies President, Marie has announced that she is going to run for the position of Board of Deputies President for JLGB and we would like to wish her every success in the upcoming elections.

We would like to thank Robert Rams and Michael Livingston for their service as JLGB’s previous Deputies.
