Job Description

We are looking for Team Leaders to guide and inspire a group of 16-17 year olds through our NCS programme this summer. This role is suitable for a dynamic and confident person with experience of leading groups of young people, who is able to motivate them and earn their respect.

About the Organisation

The JLGB strives to help develop a society that values Jewish young people and their contributions to their local and wider communities by aiming to make every effort to train, develop and support them through their transition from young person to adult to become active citizens in society. NCS powered by JLGB has been running since 2012, where we piloted an interfaith provision for young people of all faiths and none. Our experience of running faith sensitive residentials for over 120 years means that we are able to meet the cultural needs of all for example by offering fully Kosher, Halal, vegetarian and vegan menus; single gender groups and prayer spaces as well as ensuring our dates and times are sensitive to the Sabbath and festivals. The programme is open to young people in Year 11 and 12, and lasts two weeks, over which participants will undertake adventure activities, learn a new skill and design and carry out their own social action project.

NCS promotes:

  • A more cohesive society by mixing participants from different backgrounds;
  • A more responsible society by supporting young people’s transition into adulthood;
  • A more engaged society by enabling young people to work together to create social action projects in their local communities.

Our NCS Programme

We bring together young people from across a community and challenge them to connect with people from different backgrounds, learn key skills for the workplace, and make a difference in their community. They achieve this by completing three phases over a two week period:

  • Phase 1:  2 days of challenging outdoor activities.
  • Phase 2: 3 days of skills workshops to gain an insight into cutting edge industries and learn transferable skills to use for planning & designing their social action projects for week 2.
  • Phase 3: Teams work to organise and deliver a Social Action project to benefit the local community.

All young people who complete our NCS programme graduate and are signposted into year-round volunteering, membership and social action opportunities.

About the Opportunity

The programme runs for two weeks and includes outdoor activities, skill development and social action. Our NCS is a non-residential programme but may involve some working from home in the evenings in order to keep participants engaged and motivated. Team Leaders take part in all phases of the programme, and will have an opportunity to work on both Waves.

Training

All Team Leaders receive 2 days of non-residential training to deliver our NCS programme (dates TBC).

 Graduation

A graduation ceremony for all participants will take place after the conclusion of the programme on a date to be confirmed.

 The Team Leader will:

  • Lead, inspire and pastorally care for a team of up to sixteen participants, ensuring their safety and assisting their personal development through two weeks of intense activities.
  • Work alongside other members of staff to ensure that all the young people in your team are engaged and fully participating in all activities.
  • Work with the support of the Wave Leader to manage with challenging behaviour and scenarios.

 Lunch will be provided for both weeks of programme. Transport is also provided for Phases 1 and 2.
